English learning program for trauma survivors
- empowers participants to manage stress and boost confidence
- equips them with language to describe their feelings, and to be comfortable in simple conversations
- prepares them to access further English as a Second Language programs including Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada
- provides technology and community resources/connections
- small groups of up to 10 learners with 2 instructors - English teacher and well-being counsellor; specialized curriculum
- in-person and online options; once a week - 3 hours for 12 weeks
- individual and group coaching from professionals in areas such as mindfulness, wellness, meditation, relaxation, art and drama
Application
Immigration documents to confirm status such as PR Card, Confirmation of PR Letter, Landing Paper, Letter of Decision, Protected Person Document, CUAET Permit for Ukrainian citizens
Eligibility
Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee, Protected Person, or CUAET Permit Holders (for Ukrainian citizens) 18 years and older experiencing the following barriers:
difficulty succeeding in traditional English classes
limited knowledge of English (Canadian Language Benchmarks - CLBs 0-4)
