Niagara Region Housing Services - Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB)

A direct, monthly benefit payment to eligible households to help pay their rent. The benefit payments are:
  • portable, which means you may receive the benefits even when you move to another address
  • based on the household income and local market rent.

Application

This is a closed application process and the benefit is not available to the general public. If deemed eligible to receive an offer for COHB, you will be contacted by the Housing Access Centre inviting you to apply for the program. Eligible households must be either:
  • on, or eligible to be on, the social housing waiting list
  • living in social housing

Eligibility

COHB is a referral based program. The Housing Service Manager identifies households who may be eligible according to Provincial program guidelines.
Eligible households include:
  • survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking
  • people experiencing or at risk of homelessness
  • Indigenous people
  • seniors
  • people with disabilities
