District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board - Homelessness Prevention Program

Provides financial assistance to individuals or families who are homeless or facing homelessness to obtain or maintain housing

To establish a new residence:
  • financial assistance for first and/or last months rent
  • financial assistance for utility deposit
  • financial assistance for moving expenses
To avoid eviction or disconnection of utilities:
  • financial assistance for rent, mortgage, or property tax arrears
  • financial assistance for utility and fuel arrears (gas, hydro, water, propane, oil or wood)

Application

  • Individuals not receiving Ontario Works (OW) or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), call the HPP Intake Line for application
  • Individuals receiving OW or ODSP will need to speak with their case manager for a referral
Note: Individuals can apply for assistance once every 24 months

Eligibility

Individuals must reside in the District of Nipissing and:
  • be at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness
  • meet the income and asset criteria
  • be moving to financially sustainable accommodations
  • use available last month's rent from the current/previous address
  • be able to verify all of the eligibility requirements
  • not be seeking reimbursement
  • be moving for employment or medical reasons if already housed
