Legal Aid Ontario - Peterborough Area Legal Aid Office
Accepts applications for legal aid from low-income individuals with legal issues in areas including criminal, family, immigration, mental health and poverty law
- Evaluates clients' financial circumstances and type of legal problem to determine if clients are eligible for a legal aid certificate
- provides eligible clients with a voucher to pay a private practice lawyer
- must use a participating lawyer who accepts legal aid certificates
- Client Service Centre phone line also provides free information, referral and advice from a lawyer

Eligibility
Annual gross family income less than:
1 family member: $18,795
2 family members: $32,131
3 family members: $39,352
4 family members: $45,289
5 or more family members: $50,803
Single boarders: $12,330
Low-income applicants with an income above these levels may qualify for a Legal Aid Certificate with a contribution agreement. Required to make monthly payments to repay some or all legal fees
Individuals experiencing domestic violence may be eligible under a separate set of income eligibility guidelines
