Northumberland Community Legal Centre

Provides free summary legal advice and legal representation, referrals, community development, public legal education, and law reform initiatives in poverty law.
  • Areas of practice include tenant's rights, employment insurance, social assistance (Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program), Canada Pension Plan, Workplace Safety and Insurance, employment law (eg. wrongful dismissal), Employment Standards, Ontario Human Rights, seniors issues (including Old Age Security), powers of attorney and some consumer law issues.
  • Also assists with wills, some Indigenous issues.
Satellite clinics: Contact the Legal Centre at 1-800-850-7882 to arrange an appointment at a satellite clinic in Campbellford, Brighton, Port Hope, Alderville, Bewdley, Colborne.

Eligibility

Summary Advice: any resident of Northumberland County but only in areas of practice and only where no conflict of interest. Can not give advice to landlords, or to any party where there is a conflict of interest.
Legal Representation: low income residents in Northumberland County in areas of practice; must meet financial eligibility guidelines set by Legal Aid Ontario.
