Service Canada - Thunder Bay District - Apprenticeship Grants

The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant will end on March 31, 2025. Applications will not be accepted after this date.

  • Provides the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG), a taxable cash grant of $1,000 per year/level, up to a maximum of $2,000 per person, available to registered apprentices once they have successfully finished their first or second year/level (or equivalent) of an apprenticeship program in one of the Red Seal trades
  • Provides the Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG), a taxable cash grant of $2,000 to registered apprentices who have completed their training to help them become certified journeypersons in designated Red Seal Trades, which include:

    • Agricultural Equipment Technician
    • Appliance Service Technician
    • Auto Body and Collision Technician
    • Automotive Refinishing Technician
    • Automotive Service Technician
    • Baker
    • Boilermaker
    • Bricklayer
    • Cabinetmaker

  • Applications, including supporting documents, must be received no later than June 30th of the calendar year following the date the applicant progressed in the apprenticeship program

Eligibility

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a Protected Person
  • Must be registered in or have completed an apprenticeship program in a trade that is designated as a Red Seal trade
    • Eligibility for Level 1 grant: must have been registered as an apprentice for at least 12 months
    • Eligibility for Level 2 grant: must have been registered as an apprentice for at least 24 months
Apprenticeship Completion Grant
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a Protected Person
  • Must not be a high school student
  • must have proof of a completed apprenticeship program as a registered apprentice in a designated Red Seal trade
  • provide proof of journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal trade
