Centre for Immigrant and Community Services - Newmarket Centre

Community-based centre managed by Centre for Immigrant and Community Services (CICS) offers the following programs and services to newcomer women, children, youth and to seniors from diverse backgrounds as they integrate into Canada

Women Services
Wide range of programs and services offered to empower immigrant women to become physically and mentally healthier, self-confident, relationally competent and financially independent; programs include

  • parenting skills training
  • communication and conflict resolution training
  • health and wellness; e.g. Yoga class, Zumba class, mental health workshop series and stress management support group
  • WE (Women Empowerment) program through volunteering
  • computer skills training
  • English Conversation Circle
  • Food Handler Certificate training
  • First Aid and CPR training
  • SOAR Program - offers Financial Administration with Quick Books, a 6-week in-person program and Office Administration, a 4-week virtual training program

Children (6-12 years) and Youth (13-24 years) Services
Activities and social events after school, on PA days, and throughout March Break and summer to empower children and youth to expand social connections, develop life skills, and get academic support. Programs include

  • English language and academic/mentorship support including Homework Club
  • STEM workshop
  • pre-employment training
  • education pathways resources; help with post-secondary applications
  • leadership training
  • community engagement and volunteer opportunities
  • life skills training such as First Aid and CPR training
  • field trips and recreational activities
  • March Break and summer camps

Seniors Services
A space where seniors develop friendships, enhance knowledge and skills for daily life, promote physical and mental wellness, participate in social activities and become engaged in their communities

  • Senior Active Living Club
  • seniors exercise groups
  • English conversation circle
  • iPad/Android tablet class
  • festival celebrations
  • field trips/community day tour
  • information sessions on wide variety of topics such as health, Old Age pension, seniors' benefits, social housing, wills and Power of Attorney (POA), and retirement planning

Newcomer Services
Offers variety of programs that equip newcomers with knowledge and resources needed to navigate life in Canada with confidence and connect with others in the community
